Optimalisasi Handover Pasien Pascaoperasi sebagai Upaya Peningkatan Keselamatan Pasien

Cecep Triwibowo, Yulia Fauziyah

Abstract

Optimizing Post-Operative Patient Handover as an Effort to Improve Patient Safety

Abstract
The patient handover process from the operating room to the intensive care unit is a crucial stage that is important in ensuring post-operative patient safety. Ineffective communication during handover can lead to medical errors, complications, and increased mortality risk. This study aims to evaluate interventions that effectively improve the quality of post-operative patient handover. This study used the literature review method by reviewing peer-reviewed articles published from 2014–2024. Data sources for this study were obtained from searches in various electronic databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar using the keywords "post-operative patient handover,"; "operating room handover,"; "ICU room handover," and handover+patient safety. Of the 171 articles found, nine articles met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that using checklists and standardized handover protocols can improve the completeness of information conveyed during handover, reduce the rate of medical errors that impact improving patient safety, and increase medical team satisfaction. This study concludes that implementing standardized handover protocols and checklists by inter-professionals can improve patient safety by reducing medical errors through the completeness of information conveyed.
