Abstract

Relationship of Exclusive Breastfeeding and Diversity of Mother's Food Consumption with Stunting Incidence in Toddlers in Muaro Jambi Regency

Abstract
Optimal growth and development can be hampered by malnutrition during pregnancy and until the child is two years old, increasing the risk of stunting and other factors such as repeated infections and lack of stimulation. This study aimed to assess the relationship between a history of exclusive breastfeeding and the diversity of maternal food consumption with the incidence of stunting in children under five. This type of research is quantitative analytic research with a cross-sectional design approach. The study was conducted in March 2022 at two puskesmas, namely the Tempino Health Center and the Pondok Table Health Center, Muaro Jambi Regency. The study population was toddlers aged 6–24 months, with a sample of 75 respondents selected by simple random sampling. There is a significant relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and the diversity of maternal food consumption with the incidence of stunting. These two factors can minimize the risk of stunting in toddlers. Future research needs to be carried out with a more extensive and diverse population as well as intervention from health workers to encourage an increase in the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding and assistance from policymakers so that the consumption of food diversity can be further increased.
