Pengajar Ekonomi Politik Media dan Metodologi Penelitian di Program Pascasarjana Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial Universitas Indonesia. Banyak menulis pada berbagai jurnal ilmiah dan surat kabar. Dua di antara perlbagai karya tulisnya antara lain "Media: Between the Market and the Palace" (1999) dalam Baker et al (eds.) Indonesia: The Challenge of Change yang diterbitkan oleh ISEAS East-West Centre Hawaii dan "Pers dalam Kontradiksi Kapitalisme Orde Baru" serta "Jurnalis, Kepentingan Modal, dan Perubahan Sosial" dalam Hidayat et ai, Pers dalam "Revolusi Mei "; Runtuhnya Sebuah Hegemoni (2000). Selain itu, ia aktif memberikan pelatihan metodologi penelitian komunikasi di berbagai kesempatan. Memperoleh gelar Ph.D. dari College of Communication, University of Winconsin, Madison.
